London Tax Society Highlights – 2020

This year has been…interesting to say the least. We had a great program of events lined up and obviously circumstances conspired against us all. Some of our pre-planned technical events went ahead and others have been postponed to next year, Covid-19 and the universe permitting of course.

Before lockdown, we had seminars by Pete Miller and David Treitel on HMRC Clearances and American Taxes respectively, both very well attended and plenty of CPD and networking enjoyed by all.

We also held a ladies networking event at John Boyd Hats, Milliners to the Queen. You will have seen some of their hats adorning the heads of Chelsea ladies and aristocrats on television and now some of these masterpieces may also be seen on our LTS women.

After lockdown struck, we moved online and continued to provide CPD with topics including the Taxation of Cryptocurrency, the Taxation of Partnerships, Tax and Insolvency (looking to become more and more topical!) and a VAT and Tribunals talk to keep you updated on the tax legal system. Our last event was a collaboration between HMRC and the private sector, a fitting presentation for Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Fingers crossed that the young professionals networking restarts next year and in the meantime if any of you do have any specific requests for topics to be covered or types of networking events, please contact us. Any other comments or suggestions will be most welcome.

Next year, we hope to go ahead with our Ladies wine tasting, the mental health seminar along with technical topics including a review of the Corporate Criminal Offence for the facilitation of tax evasion, a recent cases update and much much more…

Finally, in view of the events this year, we have dropped our membership price for 2021 to only £30. Members will get free entry to all technical events (whether webinars or in person seminars) and discounted tickets on all other events. Existing members will also receive a 20% discount on 2021 membership until the end of 2020. You can purchase membership here.
